Emotional Ending to Wingless Nationals at Chico
It was a “Hollywood Ending” at Silver Dollar Speedway during the final race of 2008. After 34-years of racing, Darrell Hanestad knew that tonight was going to be his final laps in a sprint car. After the checkered flag waived and Hanestad won the main event he did not want to stop. Five slow victory laps later, during which he was probably reflecting about his racing career, Hanestad pulled into victory lane.

Veteran Hanestad Wins Night One at Chico
Veteran open-wheel sprint car driver Darrell Hanestad dominated night one of the 4th Annual Non-Wing Spec Sprint Nationals at Chico. Hanestad won three of the four events he entered tonight. He started the night off by turning the quickest lap in qualifying at a 14.733. Then he started sixth in the first heat and won that race. The only thing that derailed his perfect night was a third place finish in the dash. However, when the money was on the line, Hanestad turned up the heat and raced to the lead earlier into the 20-lap main event.
