Holy smokes! Final Placerville Speedway point race is Five Dollar Night!
Championship finale is Performance Carpet Care night and Tracy Taylor memorial
by Bill Sullivan

Holy smokes! Final Placerville Speedway point race is Five Dollar Night!PLACERVILLE, CA (8-26-08) - This Saturday night will mark the final championship point race of the 2008 New Car Dealers of El Dorado County, Hoosier Tires, Arnolds for Award championship season at Placerville Speedway. Four divisions of racing will be on hand Saturday night, 360 sprint cars, pro stocks, pure stocks and the visiting midget lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association. The big news, admission is only five dollars for adults Saturday and kids 11 and under are free as John Padjen Motorsports brings back “Fan Appreciation night” to end a successful season amidst tough economic times.

“We have endured these economic times pretty well this year, and much of that can be attributed to the loyalty of our dedicated race fans,” said Bill Sullivan, Communications Director for Placerville Speedway. “We know many of them may have cut back in other ways to make it to the races every week. Saturday night we say thank you to those loyal customers with discount admission on the night we will proudly crown our season champions and close out another competitive season here.”

Saturday night is a big night at Placerville Speedway, not only will three drivers officially become the 2008 champions, the evening is sponsored by Performance Plus Carpet Care of Roseville. John Taylor, the owner of the #35 sprint car driven by Colby Wiesz owns the area carpet cleaning company and will bring the sprint car victory up to $2000 for the night. The fanfare doesn’t stop there, the BCRA Midget Lites will be on hand for their Tracy Taylor Memorial. This annual event pays tribute to the late Tracy Taylor, former publicist for the BCRA who lost her life to cancer far to early in her life. Tracy was John Taylor’s beloved sister.

“She loved the racing, she supported it 100 percent,” said Taylor. “The last time I saw Tracy was at a race, we were packing up she said she would call me the next morning and I never saw her again, she passed away in her sleep even though the doctors felt she was in remission. I miss her everyday and the BCRA misses her too. She was a great person.”

In honor of Tracy Taylor, and additional $500 is being awarded to the Midget Lites division which will be distributed throughout the feature event payout by the organization. The event is being sponsored Taylor and his half brother, Kerry King who is a local building contractor. Once again, the fanfare doesn’t stop here. Some 100 associates of Performance Plus Carpet Care will be in the grandstands Saturday night to witness the championship crowning of Colby Wiesz and Taylor’s history making third consecutive championship as a car owner. Additionally, Taylor will be back behind the wheel for the night in honor of his sister, driving a midget lite owned by Lopez motorsports.

“This is a really special night for us,” said Taylor, who clinched the sprint car title last Saturday night when Wiesz finished in second place. “I’m really proud of what Colby has done in this car all season and I can’t think of a better celebrate it but on the same night we remember Tracy.”

Much like in the sprint car division, the Pro Stock title has already been clinched at Placerville Speedway Saturday night as well. Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City will return for one final night behind the wheel of his family owned #5x stock car. Brown will look to win his 15th event of the season and now holds the record for the most wins in a season.

In the Pure Stock division, the championship title still remains up for grabs. Brian Stevens of Pollock Pines must take the green flag in the evening’s event to clinch the title. For Stevens the accomplishment will be bittersweet as he races in the memory of his former teammate Terry Scher. Scher broke the hearts of nearly every driver and staff member at Placerville Speedway prior to the start of the racing season when he lost his courageous battle with cancer. The Pollock Pines resident was always willing to lend a helping hand and touched the hearts of everyone he ever spoke to at the speedway, a place that was his home away from home for many years.

The front gates to Placerville Speedway will open Saturday night at 5 p.m. and with the discount admission, an early arrival is suggested as all seats are first come first serve and the saving of seats prior to the race will not be permitted. All adults are just $5 and all kids 11 and under are free on this final point race of the season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
