McMahan comes home to take Friday night preliminary feature
Its safe to say that Paul McMahan cut his teeth in the sport of sprint car racing in Chico, California. A native of Elk Grove he spent many of his younger years competing on the banks of Silver Dollar Speedway with the likes of Greg DeCaires in the traveling Northern Auto Racing Club before moving to nearby Oroville where he made Silver Dollar Speedway his home track for weekly point racing when his schedule allowed.

Friday night Paul McMahan had the opportunity he has long awaited, he returned to his home track where the fans adore him and applaud his presence. To top it off he battled with his formal friendly rival DeCaires to post the victory for the second 30-lap preliminary event of the 50th Anniversary Gold Cup Race of Champions.

Saldana and Kinser form front row tonight
The preliminary events are a wrap and the story lines have been determined for Saturday’s 50th Anniversary Gold Cup Race of Champions.

Following his victory on Thursday, Joey Saldana has earned the pole position for the 40-lap feature event with the King of the Outlaws Steve Kinser starting on the outside. Paul McMahan, winner of the Friday night program, starts in the seventh position while second place finisher Greg DeCaires starts eighth.

Tim Kaeding, who finished second to Kinser in the 2002 Gold Cup will have his work cut out for him as he starts deep in the field in the 15th position.

Final day of camp action
The sun has risen on the final day of the Gold Cup Race of Champions but don’t pack up those lawn chairs and ice chest just yet. While the feature events are the headlining action of the day, there is still plenty to do during the day here at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.

Around the noon hour, Alan Padjen in conjunction with Placerville Speedway driver gang will present the "Fan Appreciation" bbq in the Party Zone. This area is north east of the pavilion and the event is free to all of the fairground residents and company.

The World of Outlaws souvenir trailer and the Gold Cup souvenir center will be open all day to pick up your commemorative event t-shirts before its too late.
