Saldana untouchable in Thursday night Gold Cup preliminary feature
Joey Saldana had never been victorious on the quarter mile Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California but one would not have imagined that statistic after watching the Brownsburg Indiana native's performance Thursday night here. Saldana led all 30-laps of the preliminary feature event for the opening segment of the 50th Anniversary Gold Cup Race of Champions featuring the O'Reilly World of Outlaws sprint car tour.

Lasoski leads field tonight
Fresh from his third Knoxville National title, Missouri's Danny Lasoski will be chasing gold when he enters tonight's second round of preliminary action for the 50th Gold Cup.

Lasoski enters tonight's event trailing defending champion Steve Kinser of Bloomington, IN. Lasoski drives for car owner and NASCAR champion Tony Stewart and hopes to close the point gap between he and Kinser to win his second series crown and Gold Cup, which he won in 2000.

Kinser is the defending Gold Cup champion after a long dry spell following nine wins here between 1978 and 1992. After breaking the dry spell last year, Kinser went on to claim the 2002 World of Outlaws championship title.

Local favorite Tim Kaeding is on the entrant list tonight. Kaeding won the preliminary event last year and chased Kinser to the finish in the final.
