CHICO, CA - Two days down and two to go here at the fastest four days in California, the 50th Anniversary Gold Cup Race of Champions. Although the event is half complete plenty of activities remain the days to come.

Tonight will mark the second night of preliminary action on the track for the World of Outlaws with action gearing up around 6:30 for qualifying, heat races and feature events for the second half of the field and the car count is expected to be in the 50 entrant range.

Away from the race track itself, plenty of activities have taken place and many remain on fairground in the days to come. Yesterday, Hoserville, California which is best known for the always active Northern California Sprint Cars message board, hosted a benefit barbecue that proved the successful.

This event raised money by donation to reimburse the Oskaloosa Cheerleaders who recently donated their earned proceeds to the family of sprint car driver Keith Hutton who lost his life racing in an event which the cheerleaders were hosting a 50/50 raffle and chose to donate their funds to the family. Over $1100 was raised by the group in this event.

If you missed out on those good eats on Thursday take a trip to the party zone Saturday around the noon hour where the annual Alan Padjen Placerville Speedway Barbecue takes place and is free to any who wants to endure the long line which usually stems from this event.

Last night the inaugural sock hop was a success in the pavilion as several people donned their 50's attire including an appearance by the track office staff dressed as the "Pink Ladies" and track officials Jerry Divecchia and Ron Johnson who transformed into the "Blues Brothers" for the event.

Tonight the action heats up with the annual Miss Gold Cup Bikini Contest and Chill feed in the pavilion following the night of racing action.
