CHICO, CA - With the Pacific Sprint cup Invitational now in the history books, the action here at Silver Dollar Speedway will step up one more level as the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars take to the track tonight.
Tonights event will be the first of two preliminary nights of competition for the Pennzoil World of Outlaw Series and one particular California driver will be looking continue his success with the series beginning tonight. Last Saturday night, Jason Statler of San Jose, California held off the challenges of Steve Kinser all the way to the checkered flag in the A Feature at Santa Maria Speedway. Statler, known as one of the biggest drivers in sprint car racing, standing six-foot, five inches and weighing 270 pounds, was wearing a big smile as well last weekend, all for good reason as he became the first California driver to win with outlaws since the beginning of their 1999 trek through the Golden State. I could quite sprint car racing right now and be happy for the rest of my life, Statler said. The competition here is as tough as it gets. This is definitely a dream come true. Statler will look to keep the dream going tonight, as he heads the numerical roster for tonights preliminary round of competition. Tonights event will be the first of two prelims for the 45th Gold Cup Race of Champions, the final big one of the millennium. As Statler will look continue his winning streak tonight, he will be joined by a number of Californian drivers who have filled the majority of the roster for tonights program which will consist of qualifying, heat races and preliminary feature events. All those in competition tonight will earn accumulative points for their success, which are calculated to determine the starting positions for Saturdays feature events. Those drivers from the Golden State who are logged on tonights preliminary roster to join Statler include Elk Grove resident Johnny Rodriguez. Rodriguez, a driver with much experience on the Silver Dollar oval as he recently claimed the 1999 track championship. Another pair of drivers from California who both have had their share of success and are entered tonight are Brent and Tim Kaeding of Campbell. Brent, the current Northern Auto Racing Club point leader and multiple time King of California titileist has seen a multitude of victories here as well as Tim, who claimed the 410 sprint car title here one year ago. Additional drivers, to name a few, that have entered tonights program include Jonathan Allard of Chico, Randy Hannagan of San Jose, Jason Meyers of Fresno, Mini-Gold Cup Winner Jason York of Chico as well former Silver Dollar Speedway champion Shane Scott of Chico. After competing in last nights Pacific Sprint Cup, Andy Forsberg of Auburn will join tonights field aboard his 360 cubic inch powered machine along with Marc Mackay of Shingle Springs. World of Outlaw regulars joining tonights event include World of Outlaws point leader Marck Kinser of Oolitic, Indiand along with previous two-time Gold Cup Champion Andy Hillenburg of Broken Arrow, OK as well as fellow resident Lance Blevins. Kevin Gobrecht of New Oxford, PA. Action is set to begin at 6:30 tonight with qualifying. Gold Cup Daily News All of the material published in this
