Dirt Modified cup returns for 2nd year
Point leader Micheli looks to clinch 1999 track championship tonight

CHICO, CA  - While the Pacific Sprint Cars will headline the program tonight, it will also be a big night for the Dirt Modified division at Silver Dollar Speedway .

The top drivers in the season long point standings will compete tonight in the second annual "Dirt Modified Cup".

This event is the final segment of the 1999 Silver Dollar Speedway championship point racing campaign and is only open to the top 22-drivers in the current division point standings.

Headlining tonight's program will be Matt Micheli of Live Oak, the current division point leading who is gunning for the 1999 Silver Dollar Speedway track championship, a title that will not be determined until tonight as Micheli only holds an 11-point advantage entering the program.

After winning the last 20-lap feature event of the regular season on August 27, Micheli increased his point lead by two-points over Joey Hubbard who finished second in the evening's program.

Mike Compton Sr. currently ranks third in the divisions standings and is sure to be on hand tonight as he trails Bubbard by 71 points. Richard Brace Jr. of Auburn, a top runner in nearly every event in which he competed this year currently ranks fourth, trailing Compton by 30-points and holding off Richard Pappenhausen by 11-digits.

Mike Sohnrey sits just one-point out of the top five and trails Papenhouasen by 28-points while sitting just 10-digits in front of Dustin Jenks. Ken Micheli ranks eighth overall with nine-points between he and Jenks and a 10-point advantage over Chico's Sean Becker.

Brian Wright is also one of the top 22 expected in tonight's program. Wright current ranks 10th overall and trails Becker by 36-points. Sitting just one position out of the top ten is Eddie Lewsis and he trails Wright by 91-points. Lewis is trailed in the series standings by Mark Abouzeid, travis Moore, Fred Jenson and Bud Wahlberg, all whom are expected to compete in tonight's program.

The pit gate for tonight's event is scheduled to open at 3 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 at which time the showdown for the 1999 Silver Dollar Speedway Championship will begin. Many of tonight' top positions in the division standings are too up fro grabs, a sole driver can earn up to 44-chaqmpionship points in one-night of competition at Silver Dollar Speedway. In the other weekly divisions at Chico, Johnnny Rodriguez was recently named the Sprint Car champion and Scott Rogers earned the Pure Stock title.
